As a group, we wanted Ring to play as a commentary on the relationships we have with strangers. By placing two rotary phones in the middle of downtown San Francisco, we wanted to provoke a sense of nostalgia—a reminder that by having a simple conversation with someone you don't normally talk to, might just make your day a bit brighter.
Initial prototyping with old school cups and fishing wire (it works)!
Here we were prototyping with one phone on Mission Street in San Francisco. Dad had no idea that he was actually talking to our teammate who was around the corner of the street. Our teammate Mallika, convinced him she was at Yerba Buena Park.
Guy using a bit of left-over glue and a lighter to quickly "solder" two wires that came apart during our install.
